Wisdom Teeth Removal
wisdom teeth extraction
To ensure your experience is as comfortable and stress-free as possible, we offer several forms of relaxation and sedation. Our compassionate dental team is dedicated to making your visit pleasant and pain-free.
Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, are the last of the permanent teeth to make an appearance in the human mouth. These teeth typically make their appear between the ages of 17 and 25, a period often referred to as the “age of wisdom.” However, not everyone will develop wisdom teeth. Some individuals are fortunate enough to never experience them, while others may have one to four wisdom teeth emerge.
Impaction
Wisdom teeth can become impacted, meaning they do not have enough room to emerge or develop normally. This can lead to pain, infection, or damage to adjacent teeth.
Misalignment
Even if they erupt, wisdom teeth can grow at awkward angles, potentially affecting your bite or causing crowding.
Partial Eruption
When a wisdom tooth only partially emerges, it can create a flap of gum tissue. This flap can trap food and bacteria, leading to gum disease or infections.
Dental Decay
Due to the position of wisdom teeth, they are difficult to clean and are at higher risk of developing a cavity
Cysts and Tumours
In rare cases, impacted wisdom teeth can lead to cysts or even tumours, which can damage the jawbone and require surgical intervention.
At Smile Sanctuary we utilise advanced 3D imaging to better assess and plan your wisdom tooth removal program. Based on the findings from your x-ray, our team will discuss the best course of action to maintain your oral health. Possible treatments include:
Monitoring: If your wisdom teeth are healthy and properly aligned, they may not need any immediate treatment but should be monitored regularly.
Extraction: If problems are detected, such as impaction or crowding, removing the wisdom teeth may be recommended to prevent future complications.
Surgical Intervention: In some cases, a more complex surgical procedure might be necessary to address severe impaction or associated cysts.
